John Goss

Born and raised in New England, John moved to Denver in 1995 from Connecticut for a job in banking and to ski the Rocky Mountains. He became a weekend warrior traveling to Vail every weekend for 20 years. In 2015, John moved to Vail full-time for a job in real estate finance. John grew up skiing in New Hampshire and Vermont and is passionate about all disciplines of skiing and the mountains and is an expert on the Vail Valley real estate market.

John's real estate career began in 2004 as a broker at CB Richard Ellis in Denver. Currently John is employed as a broker at Forstl Realty in Vail and is the Founder and Principal of Vertical Capital, a real estate finance and mortgage banking firm headquartered in Vail. He was previously employed by Alpine Bank as a relationship manager and lender in the Vail office focused on real estate lending. Prior to that he was with Wells Fargo in Avon and Edwards as a mortgage originator serving the mountain resort markets. John has over 20 years in real estate and 30 years in banking and finance with roles in commercial and consumer lending, debt and equity investing, capital markets, investment funds and private equity, with industry expertise in real estate, media, telecom and technology lending and investing.

John is active in the Vail community and is a member of Ski and Snowboard Club Vail's Board of Trustees, as well as serving as the Club's Treasurer, Chairman of the Finance Committee and member of the Executive Committee. He was also a 7-year member of the Vail Board of Realtors Affiliate Committee. John has two teenage children, Jack and Kate who both learned to ski at age two at Vail, went through the Vail DEVO program and then transitioned to SSCV's Gravity Core, Future Stars, Carver Core and YSL racing programs. Today they continue to be avid skiers with a passion for the sport.

John is a 10-year PSIA certified ski instructor at Vail, a 20+ year Rocky Mountain Masters ski racer, a Cat-3 bike racer, and was a competitive mogul skier when he was younger. In addition to his passion for all things skiing and all things Vail, other interests include cycling, mountain biking, golf, fly fishing, hiking mountains, white water stand-up paddle boarding and kayaking.

John has a BS in Finance and Economics from New Hampshire College, an MBA in Finance from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute, and was in the Chartered Financial Analyst Program. John holds a Colorado real estate broker license as well as a national mortgage originator license.
